Mengrai Seafood Market

If you enjoy good seafood and your budget will not run to one of the chic beach front seafood restaurants, then a visit to Mengrai Seafood Market is definitely in order. This collection of some twenty street stalls is the place to find locally caught seafood, cooked fresh and served at an incredibly low price. However, Mengrai Seafood Market is a little tricky to find, as it is tucked away down a very narrow Soi (small road), if you cannot find it then ask for directions to Mengrai Food Alley, which is just off Bangla Road, opposite Soi Eric.

Look out for the whole BBQ saba fish (mackerel), these are caught each morning and then cooked fresh off the boat in the market. You may have eaten mackerel back home, but you have never eaten mackerel like this, completely fresh and full of taste. Eat it with sticky rice and nam prik (chili sauce) for an authentic Southern Thai taste.

Thai street food is some of the best food to be found within Thailand and Mengrai Seafood Market is amongst the best of the best. Don’t be put off by the plastic tables and folding chairs. Take a seat and enjoy seafood as it should be served… fresh from the sea.
