Airport Transfers

Minivan

For people visiting Phuket for the first time, arranging airport transfers for their party when they arrive can be a confusing experience. Unlike modern western airports, where the information desk will always guide you to the most suitable transport for your needs, Phuket Airport is far less welcoming, and visitors are left to find their own solution. There are several options available for airports transfers from and to Phuket Airport, and these are:

Limousine Taxis - The operators of these vehicles can be found loitering around the arrivals lounge of the airport, holding up small boards which detail the prices they charge for a range of popular destinations across Phuket. Don’t be fooled into thinking these are prestigious, luxury cars being offered, they are usually simply standard vehicles operated by a private individual.

Taxi Meter - As the name suggests, these are government regulated taxis which charge by the kilometer. In many ways this is the best option for newcomers to Thailand who do not understand how much things should cost. Always insist that the meter is switched on once you get into the taxi, if the driver refuses then get out and find another.

Mini Bus - A great option for larger groups, or people who are trying to keep their budget down. You will find the touts and drivers of these vehicles in and around the arrivals area, as well as outside the main exit to Phuket Airport.

Local Bus - Not for the faint of heart, and definitely something that newcomers to Thailand should avoid if they can, local buses are the cheapest way to get form Phuket Airport to your destination. However, they are often crowded, and can take a very long time to reach their ultimate destination, as they make many stops on the way.

Car Rental - Vehicle rental is an option, and can be quite inexpensive compared to the price which would be paid in the western hemisphere. However, make sure that the car you hire comes with full insurance cover, and be sure to check and confirm the condition of the vehicle before you drive it away. It is not unknown for smaller independent rental companies to claim damage to a vehicle when it is returned, simply to get a little more money out of the unsuspecting tourist.
